Personal Assistants

In today’s hectic and high-powered world of real estate, you may feel that there are not enough hours in the day to get the job done. That’s where the personal assistant can be of use. But how do you hire a real estate assistant? What job duties can they perform? The following articles, books, and audio-visual materials may help to clarify some of these issues for you.

Directory of Real Estate Research Centers

NAR members have access to a wealth of information relating to the real estate industry from our website, Realtor.org. Now we are providing members with alternate resources to assist in their success. Various academic institutions and independent organizations around the U.S. have established research centers to study real estate-related issues and trends. These resources include state and local association library/research sources, as well as Internet sites. The following directory includes contact information for many of these research centers.

Real Estate Officer Mergers

Merging with or acquiring another business is a significant undertaking that will leave no area of your business untouched. One must pursue a merger or acquisition with caution and proper due diligence. According to McKinsey & Company, “some 70 percent of mergers fail to achieve expected revenue synergies,” (Mergers and Acquisitions: New McKinsey Research Challenges Conventional M&A Wisdom (link is external), Strategy & Leadership, 2004 E). However, with the right set of circumstances—culture cohesion, solid leadership and management, flexible employees, deft market positioning, a copacetic economy—a merger or acquisition can be a sound decision. This field guide will assist you in enumerating the issues and considerations of a merger or acquisition.

Site Selection

Successful site selection begins with the basics – traffic flow, market analysis, property size, and zoning restrictions, among other factors. However, site selection considerations for a restaurant differ widely from those for warehouse properties. Learn the basics, and then venture into site selection for office, retail, restaurant, hotel, and warehouse properties, in this regularly updated Field Guide.

Fractional Interest Ownership

Fractional interest ownership, once used primarily with commercial tenants-in-common, has recently blossomed in the vacation home market. Not to be confused with a time-share or a destination club, fractional interest properties can be a sensible and profitable alternative to owning a second home. These articles, books, and other resources will help you discover what a fractional interest ownership is, and why your clients might be interested in them.

Commercial Property Management

Whether you are new to commercial property management or have been at it awhile, you’re sure to find useful information concerning leases, safety and security, marketing, and maintenance for commercial properties. You’ll have access to full-text articles, and book suggestions from the NAR library.

Historic Properties

Ever wonder who lived in your home before you? Would you know how to find out? If your home is a landmark or if it housed a famous resident you may already know its history. Others require more effort and research. This field guide will get you started and also provide information on architectural styles of homes in the United States.
